Potential Quick Fixes for Lack of Heat

If you don't have heat, you may be able to fix the problem yourself and save time. Try these steps before you call us, and you may get your heat back immediately:

  1. Make sure that the oil burner emergency switch is in the "ON" position.
  2. Set the thermostat above room temperature.
  3. Check the fuel level gauge on your tank to be sure that the tank contains fuel.
  4. Press the reset button once only. If the oil burner does not start immediately, do not press the button again.
  5. If the oil burner or oil furnace does not run at all, check for a blown or loose fuse or a tripped circuit breaker.
  6. If you have a steam heating system, check the water level and refill the boiler if needed.

If your burner still fails to operate, call Hart Home Comfort for service: (631) 667-3200.

Heating Repair FAQs

Why Is My Heat Not Working?

Your heat may stop working because of a thermostat issue, tripped breaker, emergency switch, clogged filter, low fuel level, faulty part, or system malfunction. If the basic checks look normal and your home is still cold, it is time to schedule heating repair.

What Should I Check Before Calling For Heating Repair?

Check that your thermostat is set to heat, the temperature is set higher than the room temperature, the emergency switch is on, the circuit breaker has not tripped, and your fuel level is not low. If your system still will not run, call for service.

Why Is My Heating System Running But Not Warming The House?

This may be caused by poor airflow, dirty equipment, thermostat problems, worn parts, or a heating system that is struggling to keep up. A technician can inspect the system and explain what needs to be repaired.

Is It Better To Repair Or Replace My Heating System?

A repair may make sense if your system is newer, the issue is minor, and the equipment has been reliable. Replacement may be a better option if your system breaks down often, needs expensive repairs, or no longer keeps your home comfortable.

Why Does My Heating System Keep Turning On And Off?

Frequent cycling can be caused by thermostat issues, restricted airflow, dirty equipment, or a system problem that needs professional attention. It can also increase wear on your equipment if it is not corrected.
